Part 1 — Thinking Like a Programmer

Conditions & Logic

A computer program without conditionals is just a fixed calculator tape. Conditionals enable software to evaluate real-time state and choose different branches of action dynamically.

Branching is Hardware Comparison

When Python executes if user.is_authenticated:, the CPU evaluates a boolean expression to either 1 (True) or 0 (False), causing the Instruction Pointer to jump forward across memory.

The `if` / `elif` / `else` Decision Chain

def grant_access(user_role, account_balance):
if user_role == "admin":
return "Full System Admin Access Granted"
elif account_balance >= 50.0:
return "Standard Paid Subscriber Access"
else:
return "Access Denied: Please Top Up Balance"

Conditions are evaluated strictly top-to-bottom. The moment one evaluates to True, Python runs that block and immediately skips the rest of the chain.

Quick Summary

  • Conditionals branch code execution based on boolean truth values (True / False).
  • Next, we explore Loops & Iteration to automate repetitive computing tasks.
