Part 3 — Working with Data

Error Handling & Exceptions

In production systems, unexpected events will always happen: networks drop, disk permissions fail, and users input invalid data. Exception Handling prevents fatal crashes and keeps servers running.

The `try` / `except` / `finally` Block

try:
amount = float(user_input)
process_payment(amount)
except ValueError as err:
log_warning(f"Invalid numeric input: {err}")
finally:
cleanup_temporary_session()

Quick Summary

  • Catch specific exceptions (e.g. ValueError, FileNotFoundError) rather than bare except: blocks.
  • Next, we connect Python to the world via APIs & HTTP Requests.
